Spillers Records New Release List 22.1.21 <<downloads on phones
A small but delectable selection for this week.
There’s a nice bunch of reissue classics from Sony on Limited colour vinyl, definitely worth picking up if you have any gaps in your collection.
We’re a tad late off the mark with the latest Bob Stanley (and surrounding areas) curation. This time, we explore a mythical soundtrack from a real life place.
1970s era, West-Berlin ‘Café Exile’ was the go to hang-out for Bowie and Iggy and if you fancy slipping into another place and time all together (anyone?), then this is for you.
It’s an appetite whetting selection of ‘German motorik’ sound.
European music, devoid of Anglo-American rock influence.
It’s certainly given us renewed appreciation for Steve Hillage and as always, has also put us on to some previously ‘unknown’s’ e.g. on this occasion Annette Peacock, who is raunchy as.
And in similarly “better late than never” fashion, we’ve Tom Sanders Only Magic LP which was also from the tail end of last year (but mustn’t be overlooked just because everything was coming apart at the seams around us). Yet again, James Yorkston has pushed himself into new explorations, working this time with Swedish folk musicians, including Peter Morén (Peter, Bjorn & John), Cecilia Österholm (One Of Sweden’s Best-Known Nyckelharpa Players), Emma Nordenstam (Piano & Cello) And Ulrika Gyllenberg (Violin). Former Spillers-signing-sensations Bring Me The Horizon kick off what is the first of a four part series of EPs so if you’re a fan, keep an eye on more from them to come. And rounding off with some visceral and hypnotic electronica is the much anticipated sophomore album from Bicep, which is absolutely splendid.
